Cochin: A fatal stung of criticisms has entangled Wikipedia, the mammoth online encyclopedia, after the shocking incident where vandals changed Wikipedia entries, erroneously reporting that Senators Edward Kennedy and Robert Byrd were dead.

As per the spokesman of Wikipedia, this has made them re-think about the rules for publishing and editing of the articles published in the site. The new rules that are going to be imposed, will keep away new and anonymous users from an easily publishing of articles and making changes in the existing ones.

The new method, called Flagged Revisions, would make a significant change in the anything, anyone ,any-time ethos of Wikipedia one of the top 10 sites on the Web , widely used all over the world.

The new system would permit only registered &reliable users to publish their material for a general public visiting, in Wikipedia. The other contributors would be allowed to edit articles, but their changes will be held back until one of these registered &reliable users has signed off, or approved the revisions.

The system has been implemented in German Wikipedia since May as a test case.
